Candles can create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere as well as add a beautiful aesthetic to a room. However, it is important to use candles safely and responsibly. Here are some tips to help you do so:. Place candles away from flammable materials, including curtains, furniture, and other items.. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.. Use a proper candle holder that can contain the melted wax and catch any falling embers.. Extinguish candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.. Trim your candle wicks to 1/4 inch before lighting them so they will burn more slowly and evenly.. Do not move a lit candle.. Never use water to extinguish a candle.. Do not burn multiple candles close together; they can create too much heat and become a fire hazard.. For outdoor candles, make sure they are placed in a sheltered area away from the wind..
